If we ask each and every citizens of india "can you give one hour per day for nation?" Large number of indians will say yes. If you ask for 3-4 hour per week then even more people will be ready. Also there rare millions of people who suffer and sometimes die due to lack of basic things. The fact is that there are needy as well as people ready to help them but there is no trust worthy bridge that can connect these two. There are many NGOs but fear of corruption and misuse of fund is cause of concern. Another problem of NGO is little choice or flexibility of work and its method. So these talents/potentials are discrete. Can we create a system that can bring all these together and give something good to the nation with minimal chance of corruption and maximum individual flexibility of work? It may be difficult but not impossible.
POTENTIAL: If 0.0001% indian come together and decide to work for only 3 hour/week for our mother india then it would be 3,75,000 human hours/week and more than 19 million human hours annually. We have large number retired people, many of them would be happy to spare more than one hour daily, so actual potential is very high. Together we can do a lot for the nation and have a huge impact. A person with negative mindset can put forward hundreds of argument against this, but I think its not impossible task. It needs smart human resource management.
WORKING METHOD: We can create an organization with city wise group or branch. We can sort out people of common interest among them and make a team. Then that group can find out the needs and possible actions for that city. This is very superficial discussion. Detail with method and rules will be discribed in another post. Here are some examples but much more is possible.
1) People interest in providing health care aid to under privileged: If we can make group of 3-4 doctors who are ready to provide free consultation in slum area for 2-3 hour/week and some medical store owner or drug distributer who can provide some basic medications then weekly camp in various area can be started. No fund and no monitory transections needed. All volunteers including doctors and helpers have to come to that location on their own. Subsequently, this program can be replicated in other cities.
2)If we can make group of people interested in education. We can arrange for classes and provide help to needy students. Here also there would be no monitory transections. All volunteers do their work on their own cost and time.
Other possible work can be done for corruption, tree planting, community awareness programs. We can create a forum to report corruption and can compel government authority to take action. Join retired senior citizen for some constructive work.
But first step is to initiate discussion among those who are interested.
